How secure is OnlyMoment?
OnlyMoment uses end-to-end encryption (AES-256). Your message is encrypted in your browser before being sent to the server. The encryption key never leaves your device and is embedded in the link hash. Even we cannot read your messages without the complete link.
Can messages be recovered after they expire?
No. Once a message expires (either after being read once or after the time limit), it is permanently deleted from our servers. There is no backup, no recovery option, and no way to access it again.
What's the difference between "one-time read" and "multiple reads"?
One-time read: The link works only once. After the first person opens it, the message is immediately destroyed forever.
Multiple reads: The link works until the time you selected expires (5 minutes, 1 hour, or 24 hours). Multiple people can view it during that time.
Does the password protect my message?
Yes. If you set a password, the recipient must enter it correctly to decrypt and view the message. The password adds an extra layer of security on top of the encryption. Choose a strong password and share it separately from the link.
Can someone take a screenshot of my message?
Yes. OnlyMoment controls when a link expires and destroys the message on our servers, but we cannot prevent the recipient from taking a screenshot, photo, or copying the text. Only share sensitive information with people you trust.
Do you store my messages?
We store encrypted messages temporarily until they expire. We have no access to the content because the encryption key is in the link hash (which we never see). Once expired, messages are permanently deleted from our database.
Do you track who reads messages?
No. We don't track message views, recipients, or create user profiles. The only analytics we use is a basic page view counter to understand traffic. Your privacy is our priority.
What happens if I lose the link?
Unfortunately, if you lose the link, the message cannot be recovered. The link contains the encryption key, and without it, even we cannot decrypt the message. Always save or share the link immediately after creating it.
Is OnlyMoment free?
Yes! OnlyMoment is completely free to use. If you find it useful and want to support the project, you can make a voluntary donation via the "Buy Me a Coffee" button on the homepage.
Can I use OnlyMoment for important documents or passwords?
While OnlyMoment is highly secure, we do not recommend using it for critical data like banking passwords, cryptocurrency seed phrases, 2FA codes, or legal evidence. For such sensitive data, use dedicated secure storage solutions. OnlyMoment is best for temporary, ephemeral communication.
What is end-to-end encryption?
End-to-end encryption means your message is encrypted on your device before being sent anywhere. Only someone with the complete link (which includes the encryption key) can decrypt and read it. The server only stores scrambled, unreadable data.
Does OnlyMoment work offline?
The OnlyMoment website can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and works partially offline once cached. However, creating and retrieving messages requires an internet connection since they are stored on our servers.
How long are messages stored?
Messages are stored only until they expire:
• One-time mode: Deleted immediately after first read (with a 30-day safety net)
• Multiple reads mode: Stored until your selected time expires (5 minutes, 1 hour, or 24 hours)
Can I trust OnlyMoment with my data?
We take security seriously. OnlyMoment uses industry-standard encryption, follows best practices for web security, and operates with complete transparency. However, no system is 100% secure. Always use your judgment when sharing sensitive information online.
